Receive Intake Report

The Reference Panel meets as soon as possible after receiving the Intake Report from the Intake Officer. Its primary function is to determine how to refer the Report. The Canons do not specify whether the receipt of the Report and initial considerations need to happen within a face-to-face meeting or by electronic communication.

Participants
As a member of the Reference Panel, the Bishop will receive a copy of the full Intake Report from the Intake Officer. It will inevitably contain a considerable amount of information which would not necessarily have been shared with the Bishop by the Intake Officer prior to the issuance of this Report.
The President of the Disciplinary Board, as a member of the Reference Panel, will receive a copy of the Intake Report from the Intake Officer. As a member of the Reference Panel, the President’s duty is to review the Report thoroughly in order to participate fully in making an informed decision about the actions of the Reference Panel. The President will also want to be sufficiently informed about all the circumstances to assist in making subsequent appointments, such as members of a Conference Panel or Hearing Panel. It is important to avoid appointing people to positions that might involve a conflict of interest. Full understanding of the Intake Report leads to prudent decisions.
